72-hour free trial. After that, HAM+ is a one-time purchase: CA$12.99, for life, for one device (plus taxes in Canada). Payment is made through PayPal.

Sign in to your ve2nir.ca account to download HAM+ for Android.

STEP 1

Install HAM+

  1. Tap “Download HAM+”, above.
  2. When the download is done, tap the file HAM-Plus.apk.
You find it in the message at the top of the screen, or in the “Files” app, “Downloads” folder.
  3. Android may say: “For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source.”
Tap “Settings”, then turn on “Allow from this source”. Then go back.
  4. Tap “Install”.
If Google Play Protect asks a question, tap “More details”, then “Install anyway”. This is normal: HAM+ does not come from Google Play.
  5. Tap “Open”.

STEP 2

Activate HAM+ on ve2nir.ca

  1. The first time it opens, HAM+ shows a code (for example ABCD-EFGH). Keep this screen open.
  2. Go to ve2nir.ca and sign in.
No account yet? Tap “Create a new account”: you can enter the code in your request.
  3. Open the “My devices” page. In “Add a device”, enter the HAM+ code.
  4. HAM+ starts by itself within a few seconds.
Your 72-hour trial starts at that moment.
  5. After 72 hours, HAM+ stops and shows “Trial ended”.
Tap “Activate HAM+”: the ve2nir.ca page opens to activate HAM+ for good on this device. HAM+ resumes on its own once activated.

Your network credentials (DMR, EchoLink, AllStar…) stay in your phone. ve2nir.ca never receives them.

STEP 3 · IF YOU HAVE ANDROID AUTO

HAM+ in the car

HAM+ does not come from Google Play. Android Auto hides it until you allow it. You do this only once, on the phone, with the car stopped.

  1. Open HAM+ once on the phone (steps 1 and 2 done).
  2. Open the Android Auto settings:
Settings › Apps › Android Auto › “Additional settings in the app”.
  3. Scroll to the bottom. Tap the “Version” line 10 times (or “Version and permission info”).
  4. A window asks “Allow development settings?”. Tap “OK”.
  5. At the top right, tap the three dots, then “Developer settings”.
  6. Check “Unknown sources”.
  7. Go back to the Android Auto settings. Tap “Customize launcher” and make sure HAM+ is checked.
  8. Plug the phone into the car. HAM+ shows up with your music apps.

In the car, tap TALK once to talk, and once more to stop.

HAM+ does not show up? Restart the phone, then plug it in again. After an Android Auto update, you sometimes have to redo steps 3 to 6.

A PROBLEM?

Report a problem

  1. In HAM+, open Settings.
  2. Tap “Report a problem”. The report goes to VE2NIR by itself.

The report gives the phone model, the Android and HAM+ versions, the network in use and the last lines of the HAM+ log. It never contains a password, a call sign or a network number.
